The Chair of Department of Physics Dr. Muhammad Faryad wins the prestigious ICO/ICTP Gallieno Denardo Award for the year 2019. The winners were announced during the Winter College on Applications of Optics and Photonics in Food Science, held at ICTP from 11th to 22nd February. The award for Dr. Faryad is cited on his contributions to the understanding of light interaction with nanostructured materials, and applications in the area of optical surface waves, solar cells, optical metamaterials and the modeling of wave propagation in the nanostructured mediums. Dr. Faryad also delivered a vibrant lecture on the “Surface multiplasmonics: Fundamentals and applications to optical sensing”.
Dr. Faryad is an active contributor to the field of optics education and outreach in Pakistan. Every year, he conducts an optics school that trains graduate students at LUMS and from around Pakistan in contemporary optics research areas.
