Centuries before the telescope, astronomers fixed the positions of celestial objects with nothing more than a weighted string, a sighted ruler, and a graduated scale. This study revisits two such instruments, the quadrant and the triquetrum, to ask a simple question: how well can naked-eye, pre-telescopic technology track a moving target like the Moon?
